Cardboard Filament Spool repurpose into Modular Stackable Containers
My thoughts on print
I really like this model as this reuses the center section of the filament spool. My kids have liked these containers that can be used for pencil holders, treasure boxes and much more. The prints give a second life to what we may just chalk up to waste.

Overview
- The design is a modular, stackable container system meant for filament spools. (Maker World)
- It uses press-fit connections (no glue required) to assemble the pieces. (Maker World)
- The designer includes print profiles to simplify the printing process. (Maker World)
Parts & Assembly
To build a single cell (container) you need to print:
- Bottom + Rim + Cap (Maker World)
To expand or adapt:
- For each additional side cell: print “Rim + Connector” (Maker World)
- For deeper storage: print an “Extension” part and stack. (Maker World)
The connections are supposed to be tight fits; the designer recommends cleaning spool edges and gently rotating while pressing to ease assembly. (Maker World)
Dimensions & Compatibility
- Outer diameter of the target spool: ~ 89.2 mm (Maker World)
- Inner diameter: ~ 80 mm (Maker World)
The designer warns that if you use spools with different dimensions, you should measure carefully before printing. (Maker World)
